About the Baha'i Community of Dundee

Discovering the Baha'i Community of Dundee

The Baha'is of Dundee are a diverse group of individuals who are working to contribute to the spiritual and material development of their city. The Baha'i Faith originated in Iran in the mid-19th century and has since spread around the globe. Members come from nearly every religious, national, ethnic, social and cultural background.

This Dundee community traces its origins back to the 1960's when the first Baha'is arrived in in the city. Since then, Baha'is have been quietly working alongside their fellow citizens to apply the principles of their faith to improve spiritual and material conditions in their community. The Dundee Baha'is meet in each other's homes for devotional gatherings, community building events, study circles and children's classes.

Baha'is strive to put into practice the faith's teachings such as love, trustworthiness, justice, equality, kindness, and selfless service. The community offers educational programmes for children, youth, and adults designed to develop spiritual virtues and empower individuals to contribute to the betterment of the society. Baha'is also collaborate with others in service to the community.

At the heart of their efforts is the goal of promoting unity. The Baha'i writings state,

"The well-being of mankind, its peace and security, are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established."

By building unity and bonds of friendship wherever they reside, Baha'is hope to assist in establishing a greater awareness of the oneness of humanity.

The friends in Dundee warmly welcome all seeking to build a vibrant community. Their gatherings are open to everyone interested in praying together, and studying spiritual topics which build capacities for service to humanity.
